Isn't it wonderful how every towering tree grows from a tender little sprout? Here is a young leaf growing under our sacred fig, waiting to grow up. The reds will turn to greens as it explores the depths of the earth and heights of the sky.
Sacred fig is also called peepal tree (ficus religiousa). The tree was there in our backyard from even before came here. Now it has grown to almost twice the width with several huge branches reaching for the sky. Its shade is pleasant not only because of the delightful coolness but also because of the soothing rustle of the leaves with every breeze. Also, its branches offer a wonderful spot for many little birds, squirrels and bats. Its countless green leaves significantly contribute to atmospheric oxygen.
