THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK - Book review

The Diary Of A Young Girl by Anne Frank is the collection of diary entries of a thirteen years old Jewish girl who had to go into hiding during the Second World War. The book is a touching account of the impacts of war on the oppressed, but what makes it special is that it reflects the insights of a young girl, who was considered as an immature, frivolous child by others.

Anne’s writings have greatly influenced me as a child. Her wit, cheerfulness and ability to find things to appreciate even when disheartened are all qualities which point towards a great personality. Anne’s ambition was to become a writer, and she did become a renowned writer though she did not live long enough to receive the fame which she rightly deserved. She died in a concentration camp, but her book was later published by her father who was the only survivor of the holocaust from her family. Her diary outlived the war to arouse readers worldwide, to underscore the untold stories of the underprivileged and to tell the world how peace, hope and love are always more powerful than violence, despair and hatred.

Anne Frank’s diary is recognized as one of the most poignant writings about the war. It reveals the life of eight people who lived in a secret annex for about two years to escape the Nazis. All of them had their own ideals, attitude and dreams about freedom. This is one reason which inspired me to write this now, during this desperate time when the whole world is kept indoors due to Covid-19. We all are still better off than them in a sense, we have access to so many privileges like food, internet, a good house to stay in unthreatened, which we should be grateful for.

Anne talks about her school, her friends, her ethics, her dreams and her ideas. As she grows up, readers see a transformation from simple, cheerful descriptions to deeper, more sensitive reflections. More than once, I had started writing in a diary after reading Anne’s works, but the impulse never lasted too long and I discovered that my writing was neither consistent nor cohesive. But Anne still continues to inspire me even after rereading her book multiple times. The Diary of Anne Frank is a must read for everyone who loves to read, and if you have already read it, it would be a good idea to reread.

"Where there's hope, there's life. It fills us with fresh courage and

makes us strong again."
